Typed on a thrift-store find Royal Royalite portable. Very dirty but fully functional, with case, $9.88 + tax. I did the typecast above just as a test, and except for a quick run-through of keys in the store, this is its first bit o' printing. I am encouraged. I will get it cleaned up and tuned up, and a fresh ribbon, and we will see what happens.

Bit o' update: a bit of research by serial number shows this to be a 1962 model, manufactured in Holland.

  1. Have not heard of this strange new science you call "typecasting." What I'm wondering is....why? I'm serious. What is the reason for typing out your blog and then posting it. Does this help you reach into some deeper portion of your psyche, sort of the way I write things out in longhand first?
By the way, love your love of vintage things. I have a collection of vintage kitchen gadgets, and love using them. Ain't nothin' like it.

    1. Gee, I am sorry, only a year late... I replied to this one when it came up, but my reply later vaporized; no idea when or why.
I don't know, it is just one of those oddball things. It is quite common with typewriter collectors on their blogs/websites. In this case, just to show what the final product looks like. It looks much better now, after machine "tune-up", fresh ribbon etc. The rubber platen cover had stiffened up and become very hard due to age, and right now it is being re-covered.
Oh, and re the longhand, there are collectors of fountain pens and dip pens out there, who do theirs with the pens; they call theirs "pencasting". :-)
